Five for Friday on Saturday?

Yes I know it is Saturday. I am a day late.  The wife ended up not going into work yesterday because the didn't need her. We ended up doing some running around yesterday and I was doing homework last night.  So moving on now.

Five things Maggie does not like to do.

1. Have her face washed. She can't stand this and she gets it from me. But I still blame her mother.

2. Have her teeth brushed. She used to like it, now she doesn't. Just like her dad. But we gotta do it twice a day.

3. Mornings. She doesn't do mornings just like her old man. I'm sensing a theme here.

4. Be in the car for long periods. Going on long road trips can be a challenge sometimes.

5. Have her favorite toy we call "B" taken away from her at any time.

Freezing Friday.

It's 9 degrees right now here in Chicago. Don't you wish you where here enjoying this fine weather? Maggie and I have been inside all day and are not planning anytime soon. Just too cold to take her outside. So we have been entertaining ourselves today. I just wish Maggie would stop pulling her socks off. Lil stinker. She will take the socks off and them hand them too you. She's like me and likes to be barefoot.

Maggie now is getting teeth on the top of her mouth. It's kind of exciting to see all these changes. Next thing you know the Tooth Fairy will be coming by and leaving Maggie some cash. I used to get a quarter. What is the going rate now? I'm guessing somewhere around five dollars.

Now we just got to stay warm. I have to admit I kinda like the electric blanket that I let the wife get with our gift cards. Keeps you nice and cozy.

Five for Friday: 5 Things for Maggie and I to do indoors.

Happy Everyone!

1. Play peek-a-boo. She loves to play this. It really funny when she puts her hands up or tries to cover her face with a blanket and you can still see her.

2. Play with her new cell phone. Anytime she sees one of us on the phone she puts it up to her ear. We got her a play cell phone and she loves it. We have a lot of phone conversations throughout the day.

3. Play with her baby dolls. We like to practice pushing them in her play stroller.

4. Ride on her play scooter. She loves to ride this. Backwards, forwards, everywhere. She also likes to put things underneath the seat and pull them back out.

5. Practice walking with her and chasing her around the house. She is getting really good at walking while holding on with one hand.

School Daze

I start school Tuesday. I am not looking forward to it at all. Busy schedule this semester. Can't wait until it is over. Monday's and Wednesdays I am at school all day. 9-5 for me.

Well we are having another baby. We are excited to have a new member of the family. Names have been fun though. The boy name was already picked (it would have been Maggie's if she'd been a boy). The girl name, on the other hand, may take some time. We have agreed on Lucy, but not on the long form. We have been looking at the baby name books a lot.

I hope it's a boy (duh), but I wouldn't mind another girl. There can be two princesses in our house. We are debating if we will find out the sex this time. My wife wants to find out and not tell anyone. I don't see the point of that. I think we should find out this time. It would help us plan a little better.

We went to go to the aquarium today. As did everyone else on this school holiday. It was 20 degrees and there was a long line to get in. So we decided to go to the Chicago History Museum. Turned out to be a great day to go (Mondays are free, but we knew that). Memberships were half off today. Done and done. I've been wanting to renew it for a long time, but we were holding off because of it is not something we needed. The CHM is one of my favorite museums. They have some great exhibits. Not a whole lot of stuff for kids, but they do have some. I hope to do some research there when I take my Chicago history class. They have the bed Lincoln died in and the table Grant and Lee used at Appomattox.

Maggie is really teething now. She woke up at 3am and again at 7am. It is so cool to watch her grow up. We even brought up a future time-out chair today. She is getting to that stage were she knows what you are saying but will not listen. Every day is a learning process for all of us.

Wait....... WHAT!?!

Everything is going well so far this year. Maggie is happy as ever. I am starting classes next week. Maggie has successfully switched over to whole milk. The cats haven't driven us mad....yet! Maggie is looking at me and saying "da da." Too cute

So the wife were sitting around the house I few weeks ago. The wife says to me "I think I am pregnant."

I say "no your not."

She then preceded to explain the reasons she is. I still disagreed. I was in denial big time.

After talking about it for a while, I stood up said "f*ck this, I'm gonna go get you a pee test and prove you wrong."

So off I went to CVS to get a pregnancy test, with a cigar in hand for luck. I didn't want to buy just the pee test (that would be embarrassing). I picked up a large box of condoms, bottle of wine, and a disposable enema, better make it two.  * I paid for my wonderful purchase and went home at my own pace. No rush.

I handed the test over to the wife, and she went into the bathroom to pee on it. I sat on the couch meanwhile reading the paper. I reading the funnies when I hear the wife shout "it's not supposed to turn that fast is it?" I then jump up and go to the bathroom and look at the stick. It has got two lines showing.

I look at box.

Look at stick.

Look at box.

Look at stick.

Oh...

Your pregnant....

To quote Sam Beckett "Oh boy!"

Right then a ton of bricks fell right upon us. Big heavy mother F'ers to. After talking all night (the original plan was to kick back and have some beers) and getting a game plan together, we felt a little better.

Fast forward to now. We went to the doctor on Wednesday and everything is going fine and we are excited to bring a new member into the family. We broke the news to the wife's parent's over the weekend while the where in town to witness the wife's cousin marry god (she is Sister Jenny now). We had planned this for a couple of weeks because we knew they would be in town. Little did we know that my brother and sister-in-law are also having a baby. We found out an hour before we told the wife's parents. Everything is cool, we are beating them. We are due first. We told her parents that we got Maggie a new shirt and showed them one that said Big Sister. My mother-in-law got excited. Meanwhile my father-in-law was busy playing with his phone. We had to tell him what it said. Too funny.

I called my mom and told her too. Everyone is excited and happy for us. We have been having fun picking out girls names. The boy name was already picked out. We have a few picked out, but nothing for certain yet.

Think Maggie is worn out now, just until the new baby is here!

Five for Friday: Five Great Things I Can't Wait for Summer to do.

Greeting everyone! Seems like it has been forever since I have posted something. Well I guess it has. Now time for the first Five for Friday of the new year.

Five Great Things I Can't Wait for Summer to do.

1. Play golf! Don' think I need to explain this.

2. Take Maggie swimming. She love to take a bath. If she is like me, she will feel natural in the water.

3. Go on walks with Maggie and take her to the park. It's not fun being stuck in the house all the time.

4.Spend time in our backyard. It may not be big but it has enough room. Maggie likes her little kiddie pool.

5. August finally getting here.*

I Went to Story Time and Survived

My wife had to work this previous Monday, so I got to take Maggie to story time this week. I have to admit I was very nervous about taking her. I went to the last story time before Christmas and I sat in a seat while the wife and Maggie sat on the ground. We had gotten there late and there was no room. So I sat there and watched. They sang a bunch of songs I didn't know. Some I did know. Did a bunch of stuff I've never seen . Mostly other moms were there. There was one other SAHD (he's got his hands full with two kids, whoa mama!). There was a lot of activities that they did. I'm usually the sit back and relax kinda guy (I am a little on the shy side and I like it that way). So I wasn't really looking forward to taking Maggie to story time.

You may be asking why I even went even though I didn't want to go. I went because Maggie really loves story time and I love to do things with her. I like to see the smile on her face when we are having fun. When I went with the wife and Maggie, Maggie kept turning around and looking at me and smiling. She only did this because she knew I was there. When I was with her this week, she was so entranced on the librarian. She really wanted nothing to do with anything. She loves hear us read to her. She will sit there and listen the whole time. Maggie also loves to "read" to herself. She will take a book and will keep turning the pages.

So I woke up at 10:22am on Monday. I'm not sure what time Maggie woke up (she sometimes will just sit and play in her crib for a while before she wakes us up). I jumped out of bed and did a mad dash to get us ready to go as story time starts at 11:30am.  I fed both of us. Quickly threw some non-matching-you-can-tell- daddy-dressed-Maggie clothes. I threw a bunch of stuff in the diaper bag (wife hid the small diaper bag on me again so I had to take big one). Then I realized I need to put car-seat in car. Ran downstairs, put it in, started the car since it is January and we live in a freezer that is Chicago. Got us in car and made it with a few minutes to spare. I hate being late. Ask the wife, I like leaving early all the time and if we are running later than I think we should I start freaking out a little.

We found our spot and waited for everything to start. First song, had no idea what was going on. Second song, I knew a little bit more. Third song I thought everyone was looking at me and saying "check out the new guy who doesn't know the songs." Didn't know all of the movements and had miscues, but I think I managed pretty well. Because all it took was Maggie looking up at me and smiling. After that I could care less about everyone else in the room. I was on a mission to make my princess happy. You know what? I did make her happy.

So I guess I had fun. Well o.k. I did. I wouldn't mind going back again. Oh wait, I will be taking her next Monday again as I just found out today. I think this second time I will do a lot better. I will also make sure we get up earlier too.

I want to thank Leilani for helping me by designing the header and button for my blog. She's a great friend and she was a huge help. Check out her blog or follow her on Twitter. You won't be sorry you did. Thanks again for all of your help!

Happy New Year

I hope everyone had a safe and Happy New Year. What does 2011 have in store for us?  Some of it may shock us, some make us go hmmmmm.

Well Monday I'm taking Maggie to story time for the first time. I've been only once and I felt out of place because I didn't know all the songs and such. Hopefully I do ok.

Maggie got Two front teeth for Christmas. Dominick the Donkey or Santa gave them to her. They are really coming in. It is weird to see our baby with teeth.
